photoblog image Corbiere!

Corbiere!

Corbiere Lighthouse. Jersey, Channel Islands.
Final shot in my staggered Jersey series, one where you actually get to see the lighthouse :).Taken earlier on in the day as  this!

Have a fab weekend everyone!

Completed in 1874, the Corbière Lighthouse has led a relatively sheltered life in spite of its exposed position especially when compared with structures such a the Eddystone light off Plymouth or Scotland's Bell Rock

How many ships it has kept off the rocks and how many lives it has saved cannot be calculated, but the light itself seems never to have been seriously threatened by the power of the sea.

The worst winter gales throw spray high over the lantern and the rock on which the tower stands can be assailed by masses of solid green water, but the architect, engineer and workmen who crowned the granite outcrop off Corbière with one of Jersey's most distinctive symbols did their jobs well.

Gosh, this is so peaceful. I like the way the road sort of drifts into the sea... very inviting. Cheers
SAVO: Its a relaxing place jamoula. Strongly recommend a visit. A thin 'film' of road connects the lighthouse to the main land smile

It must be quite a job to be the lighthouse keeper - peaceful days and towering gales. If it was I, I would be keeping a fishing pole for peaceful days smile
SAVO: Definite 'ups and downs' for the fellow, I agree Louis. Thanks for dropping by.smile
