Ben, The Shard and Eye

The OLYMPICS are here next week and a chance for LONDON to showcase itself to the world. I am definitely excited by the occasion even though it would make travelling around a nightmare for those weeks!!

I took this photograph from a Pent house in Mayfair and it showcases some of the landmarks in London's Skyline including the recently opened 'Shard', The London Eye, and Big Ben. The Gherkin would be to the left of this picture but I couldn't get it in.

East in that direction (left of the picture) would be the Olympic Stadium/Village I will post some inages in the next few days before and when the greatest sporting event on earth hits my town :).

Are you planning to spend the Olympics holed up in the penthouse, SAVO? Is the Olympic precinct close by?
This is a wonderful cityscape SAVO - I really look forward to your photos from the celebrations!! Excited for you - maybe I'll see you on the TV!

Isn't that Canary Wharf over there too SAVO?
SAVO: You're right Chris, you also see canary wharf in the background - left of the picture smile

A fine vantage point from which to take this picture - I hope you find equally good places to take your next series, SAVO

Excitement is definitely in the air for everyone in the world, SAVO. We're already watching on TV what's going on behind the scenes. Let's hope all the security is figured out by then!
SAVO: I know. The security thing is sooo embarassing but I am sure they will get their act together and not ruin the games for everyone!

You have some landmarks in this picture. Wonderful shot. We will be glued to the tube to see all the athletes.
SAVO: Same here Astrid and maybe if I am lucky I will see a couple of events smile
Great view SAVO. I like the Shard but the Gherkin is still my favourite of the new skyline
SAVO: I do like the Gherkin as well Bill. Very unusual structure that breaks from the norm. I will hopefully be able to show you that in a few days smile
I understand global pickpocketers are concentrating there Savo, in the best Dickens tradition as your image suggests!
SAVO: Ha ha, well with all the security embarrassment at the moment I guess we will all have to be individually vigilant smile

Sounds like you're looking forwared to it, then, despite the expected travel chaos. Big Ben looks quite insignificant in comparison with the Shard.
SAVO: Yup Big Ben pales in comparison. The Shard is the tallest structure in Western Europe at 106ft high smile

The showcasing of London - and I thought everyone knows your town - at least those with money to travel. There is still a lot of soulscraping going on after our 2010 Football World Cup. Those in charge gets away with a lot. Like you guys will probably only allowed to eat Mac and drink Pepsi - and such kind of requirements. It is very interesting how politicians and managers sell themselves out for the "showcase" opportunity.

Anyhow - on our level smile I like the tones and sharpness of your picture. And look forward to what's to come.

May I come and stay in your Mayfair Penthouse suite Savo. Love the slightly French feel to the roof tops in the foreground.
SAVO: Certainly...if it was MY penthouse Richard, It was an opportunistic visit but I couldn't let pass the chance to get a half decent shot smile
A beautiful and unusual cityscape of London Savo!
SAVO: Thanks a lot Richard!
Superb cityscape SAVO... i can feel the pride that you have about the Olympics coming to your home time in your description... enjoy the games and take lots of picturessmile....petersmile

I really hope that it is a success SAVO. As for the shard, I know it has critics but I rather like it.
